Facts About Eiffel Tower



1)   Eiffel Tower has been named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel.

2)   Even people on wheelchair can visit the Eiffel Tower using the elevator.

3)   The Eiffel Tower is painted every 7 years, in 3 shades of brown with darkest shade at the bottom.

4)   The construction work of Eiffel Tower started on January 26, 1887 and was completed on March 31, 1889.

5)   The Eiffel Tower has got restaurants on the first and second platforms. Its height is 24 m (79 ft) antenna, is 324 m.

6)   The Eiffel Tower is six inches taller in summer than winter! This is largely due to the fact that steel contracts when it’s cold and expands when it’s hot.

7)   Initially the pieces were assembled in the factory using bolts, and then were replaced one by one with heated rivets, which contracted during cooling creating a very tight fit.

8)   The names of 72 prominent French scientists and famous personalities are affixed on the sides of Eiffel Tower just beneath the first platform, 18 names per side.

9)   There are 1665 stairs steps in the Eiffel Tower. Currently, Eiffel Tower is the fifth-tallest structure in France.

10) You can use the steps or elevator to reach the top, but these stairs are only available till the second platform, and the third platform is accessible only via elevators.
